Person admits sexual crimes targeting boys at summer camp
A person who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two children who were nine and ten years old.
The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
The man played a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".
She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in recently.
The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.
"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."
The legal counsel explained objects including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his family member notified the police about his suspicions.
She explained the man continued to play the "candy game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the events.
The prosecutor stated the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson called the law enforcement again.
She said the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
